About us > The Francois Haeringer Culinary Scholarship
The French International Culinary Society is collecting money, in the name of the Haeringer family and in memory of famed Chef and restaurateur Francois Haeringer, to be distributed as culinary scholarships to students who aspire to become professional cooks and show an interest in preserving the traditions of quality in the French Culinary Art.
The scholarships are offered to eligible students who qualify under the following criteria:
- The applicant must be enrolled in a culinary school teaching a legitimate professional course at some point during 2011.
- The applicant must demonstrate an interest in working as a professional cook or chef after graduation.
- The applicant must demonstrate his or her ability to graduate by providing the copy of a certificate or a testimonial from the school for attendance and interest.
- The applicant must demonstrate his or her interests of preserving certain quality of the French Culinary Art in a written essay.
- The scholarship must be requested in a way that complies with the application requirements.
Scholarship Specifications
The Francois Haeringer Culinary Scholarship winners will receive a $1,000 in the form of a check made to the school they are enrolled in or to the student when complete payment of the tuition can be verified. The scholarship winners will be announced, with the funds to be distributed in December 2011.
Application Requirements
Each person interested in winning the Francois Haeringer Culinary Scholarship must apply by submitting the following documents:
- A written request with full name and contact information including a mailing address and e-mail address when possible. The request must specifically state that it is an application for a Francois Haeringer Culinary Scholarship and provide the contact information of the school and the name of the culinary program in which the applicant is/was enrolled.
- A short bio or resume demonstrating an interest in working as a professional cook or a written explanation describing the interest or a valid professional reference.
- A written testimonial from the head teacher or the school contact information for the purpose of confirming that the student is attending classes and performing in a satisfactory manner while attending classes or a copy of the certificate if the applicant has already graduated.
- A written short essay describing the motivations and/or interests of the students to help preserve certain traditions of quality in the French Culinary Art.

The Scholarship Process
The applications will be reviewed by a committee under the supervision of Jacques Haeringer, with money awarded to the first valid applications as funds are available. The application must be received no later than Tuesday, November 30, 2011. Winners will be announced and funds distributed at a ceremony hosted by the FICS in December 2011.
